소나무 [Pine tree]

소나무라는 명칭은 '솔', '나무'의 합성어로 'ㄹ'이 탈락되어 생긴 것으로 추정된다.
순수 우리말로 소나무는 '솔'로 불리었다. 
여담으로 부추(정구지, 솔)는 다른 이름으로 "솔"이라 불리는데 부추의 모양이 소나무 잎과 닮아서 솔이라 한다는 설도 있다.

소나무의 나무 껍질은 적갈색이며 자랄 수록 나무 줄기의 표면이 거북의 등껍데기처럼 갈라진다. 
소나무 나무껍질이  마치 철갑(鐵甲)을 두른 듯 보인다 하여 우리 애국가에서 철갑을 두른 남산위의 저 소나무로도 언급되고 있다.

Pine tree
The name pine tree is believed to have been created by dropping the 'ㄹ' in a compound word of 'pine' and 'tree'.
In pure Korean, pine trees are called ‘sol’.
As a side note, chives (jeongguji, sol) are called "sol" by another name. There is also a theory that they are called sol because the shape of the chive resembles a pine leaf.

The bark of a pine tree is reddish brown, and as it grows, the surface of the tree trunk cracks like a turtle's shell.
The bark of the pine tree looks as if it is wearing iron armor, so it is also mentioned in our national anthem as the pine tree on Namsan Mountain wearing armor.
